How do social interaction shape microbiome recovery after pertubation?

The "social microbiome" refers to the metacommunity of individual microbiomes within a social group. Members of the same group tend to have more similar microbiomes than those in different groups, with more frequent social interactions leading to greater microbiome similarity. One hypothesis suggests that a key benefit of the social microbiome is its role in aiding recovery after disruptions.

I am interested in how social interactions shape the microbiome, particularly after pertubation.

  • What functions do socially mediated microbes provide to the host?

  • After perturbation, do socially mediated microbiome drive function changes?
